It all started when Larry and Matt got together and decided to begin a junior trap team.  Searching the internet we discovered CYSSA.  450 Flyers were made, Dr Segura, Principal at Quincy Junior Senior High School passed out the flyers to all the kids, and then  on a nice spring day in 2010 a few kids showed up to learn all about trap...

as time went on the team got bigger and bigger, and the kids got better and better....

Word was getting out, the team was growing, and with growth we needed donations....ammo and guns aren't cheap these days....Thanks to Kim Lewis, High School Liaison of the CYSSA, who got us connected with the youth program and also the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation where her husband Gary Lewis is a volunteer,  we were off and running....we became an official scholastic junior trap team, with funding, TEAM QUINCY IS BORN!!!

We started a wonderful relationship with these two  great organizations, one that supports wildlife conservation as well as youth outdoor activities; The Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation.... and the CYSSA which gives kids the opportunity to learn a fantastic sport in a highly organized and well planned "double goal" approach that places emphasis on teamwork, discipline, marksmanship skills,  and much more.

As the year went on and the club continued to grow from the initial six kids in the bleachers back in the early spring day to 13 total young shooters by June 2010.  The kids developed at a fast pace, we then had our first fun shoot in Sierra Valley.  We competed against Junior Trap Teams from the Sierra Valley Gun Club, Truckee, Fallon, and Carson City.  The results weren't all that stellar but the achieved goal was awesome.  The kids had a great time and continued to develop their skill, met new friends, developed comraderie,  and teamwork, and that is what matters.

Just like the saying in the movie Field of Dreams, "If you build it, they will come" surely applied to Team Quincy.  By mid summer we were seeing a new junior shooter or two each shoot we held....Senior Coach Larry Lawson was in heaven, he had half a platoon to teach marksmanship to, his passion of a lifetime.  The last time Larry had this many raw recruits to teach marksmanship to was while he was assigned to cadre duty at Fort Ord , I won't give the year that was  :-)

Having formed the team in the early spring of 2011, practiced every other Sunday,  attended a fun shoot in June, and ran a Summer League from May to September, the Junior Trap Team was developing and improving skills, and preparing for the grand finale of the season, the Club Championships and Larry Lawson Award.

New kids are still arriving, showing promise that the club will be around for a long time to come.    Our most recent members below; (Left to right) Dalton, Nick, Zack, and Elijah are filled with excitement and eager to learn their new hobby.

The Summer League awards were presented in mid September.....

The "Club Championships" and Presentation of the "Larry Lawson Award", the season finale....

Then its time to sell tickets and attend the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation, Feather River Chapter, Big Game Banquet...and the kids proved to be accomplished salesmen.

Mike Ford, of the RMEF, addresses the crowd of over 113 people attending the very first Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation, Feather River Chapter, Big Game Banquet....while three members in the background pay little to no attention...hey there kids, oh well.  The banquet was fantastic and was deemed a huge success.

Coach Matt lines the kids up for the shotgun drawing.....

AND THE WINNER IS:

Jennifer Vanornum wins a Remington Spartan 12 Ga Shotgun during the banquet, donated by Larry Lawson....We hope to see your junior shooter next year.  For information call Larry at 530-283-1772 or Matt at 530-283-4606.

and we continue to grow, more kids coming out each week, 2011 shows to be a promising year with more kids learning the skill of trap shooting:
